Butterfly Weed
Butterfly weed is also called Pleurisy Root because it is often used for healing chest or respiratory infections.

Pleurisy root as the name implies, was used in traditional herbal medicine for relieving the symptoms of pleurisy (inflammation of the lining surrounding the lungs). It is considered an effective remedy for lung, chest & respiratory infections.

The North American Indians, who chewed the dried roots or made a tea, reportedly held Butterfly Weed or Pleurisy in high esteem for its beneficial effect on the lungs. It was widely used as an expectorant in the 19th century, and today, is still used as such, helping to expel phlegm from bronchial & nasal passages. It is thought to relax & open the lung capillaries, which in turn helps release thick mucus, thereby reducing congestion and improving breathing. The lung tonic is also used as a diaphoretic, a herb that increases perspiration, helping the body to eliminate toxins.

Common use: Pleurisy; pneumonia; asthma; bronchitis; fevers; excessive mucus; calms spasms; diuretic; diarrhea; dysentery; gas; indigestion; poultice on wounds.

Suggested Directions: 1 to 2 cups daily. If desired, add honey and/or lemon to taste. NOT TO BE USED DURING PREGNANCY. MAY CAUSE NAUSEA AND VOMITING.
