My trade was graphic design and web site programming but after getting married I switched to the never ending job of domestic engineer. Since my husband is in advertising, I still assist him with web work and over the years I had noticed that there was really no "place" on the Internet for Jewish women to gather... so TorahWomen.com was born. I have relatives in Tel Aviv but my family's geneology runs back to both Hungarians and Russians named "Klein". . My husband is related to the Dutch German Wolferts or Wolfarts. The name was changed during the war to "Van Kurin" or Van Q'en which is derrived from the German for "from Cologne". This was done after the escape to the USA so that later generations would know where they were originally from. I do not call myself orthodox, conservative, reform, or any of those other titles. I just say "I am more Torah observant". I follow the aviv calendar but I am not karite. I try to include articles on the site from many different places on the web which would appeal to many different types of Jewish women so that any Jewess who decides to visit might feel at home here. I wanted to fashion a site where we wouldn't have to worry over reading something treif or inappropriate. As Jewish women, everything has to be filtered, which is a never-ending mental process that can become so tiring in every aspect of our lives. Whether we're reading, listening to music, watching a movie, or trying to catch up with current events, we must always weigh the information we're subjected to against Torah as well as our spirits that we try so hard to keep as pure as possible. I wanted TW to be a place where we could actually relax at least a little in this regard... still filtering according to individual tradition and preference, yet knowing that we wouldn't have to endure the filth that is so often mixed in the media of the nations.
I hope that everyone will participate in sharing with one another here as we struggle to be a light to as many as we can on this journey called life. I'm really glad you visited! I hope you'll bookmark the site and consider submitting content or that you'll at least return often! If you have any ideas on how to improve the site, have any additional questions, or just want to make friends, feel free to contact me. I'd love to hear from you!
b'shalom,
Eliyahna
