Watermint or Marsh Mint, as the name implies, is found in ponds and marshes of the United States as well as other regions.
This direct relative of the Peppermint is cited in herbal guides as a traditional aid for diarrhea & difficult menstruation.
The popular Peppermint is actually a hybrid of both Wild Mint and Spearmint. Even though Wild Mint can be used with other digestive aids as a stomach remedy, it is primarily recognized for its astringent action. Astringent herbs tighten tissues, and reduce irritation, secretions and discharge. One classic herbal reference also notes its use as a hot tea for severe colds and flu.
Common use: Diarrhea; painful, difficult menstruation (dysmenorrhea); colds; flu.
