StaphBoils are Staphylococcus bacteria infecting a blocked oil gland or hair follicle.

Our immune system fights this bacteria and produces the pus associated with boils. Conditions known as staph infections are those caused by the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. Many healthy people carry staph bacteria in their noses without getting sick. But when the skin is punctured or broken, staph bacteria can enter the wound and cause infections, which can lead to other health problems.

The best thing for treating boils at home is to apply pressure with a warm damp cloth for 20 to 30 minutes at a time, a few times a day. Keep the cloth warm. This will cause the boil to come up and drain. Continue to use the warm compresses a few days after the boil starts to drain.

You can use a bandage to stop the pus from getting on your clothing, but it's fine to leave the wound open to allow drainage as long as the surface stays clean.

Notes:
Bacteria from boils can be dangerous if it gets into your bloodstream. So if you seem to developing signs of an infection while you have a boil (fever, increased redness around the affected area, etc.) - or if the boil is around your lips, nose, eyes, armpits or groin, you should have a doctor look at and treat the boil.
