This
tkhine is to be said on Sabbath with great
kavanah.
May it be granted, Adonai our Gd,
And Gd of our forefathers,
Creator of us all,
And Creator of all the world,
You were One Gd, alone
When the world began
And will be one Gd throughout
eternity.
Only You can rule this world,
And the world to come.
On this day You completed
The six days of Your work
With great skill and judgment,
And then You created rest,
And You rested
and made this day
Holier than all other days,
And You blessed it for Your people, Israel,
So that they
would rest
After spending the whole week
Attending to their needs.
But on this day,
They should read the Torah
And think of the mitsvot they should do
All the days of their lives.
And on this day You gave Your people
The opportunity to rest in this world
In preparation for the great
rest
And the blessedness
Of the next world,
Where they will enter
Eternal life,
In the Garden
of Eden,
With their Creator,
In the radiant light
Of Your Divine Presence.
Lord of
the world,
I, Your devoted maid and daughter
Beg before Your holiness
And ask You to give us blessed
rest
Today, on this day,
So we may praise and thank
Your Holy Name for all the gifts
And the food
that You have given us
For the past six days.
And may the food we have today,
And the
sweet spices and beautiful clothes,
Enhance and honor
Your holy Sabbath,
In peace and tranquillity.
Give me the ability and strength
To rest, and to keep Your Commandments,
On this day when
Your Divine Presence
Rested and sanctified it above all other days.
May I, and my husband and children,
Be worthy to be brought at our time
With great honor
Into Your service
In the next world,
To sit in the Garden of Eden
With those who have honored,
And made holy, and observed,
The Sabbath.
May they intercede for us
When we are judged by Your holiness,
As Adam was redeemed in death.
Lord of the world,
I feel safe in Your assurance
To Your children,
Your people Israel,
That all those who rest and praise and observe
Your holy Sabbath,
Will, like Jacob our father,
Receive their reward
In this world
And in the next world,
And I know that You will remain constant
And keep Your Word.
May the speech of my mouth
Find favor before You,
Gd, my Creator and
my Redeemer.
