Hold On
A note to my family... those long gone who witnessed the Esteem of
HaShem
, blessed be He, and those who did not survive the war.
Where are you now?
Your blood cries out to me.
Your sorrow I feel
Your pain and endurance
Your children
My uncles
your sisters
my aunts
Lying together
waiting to rise again
Where are your pots?
Your shawls and your candles?
Where are your prayers?
They whisper the wind
Where are your tears?
They watered the garden
They flowed as a river
mixed with your blood
carrying flesh
from the dust to the mud
Where are your dreams now?
Have they been lost?
or do they live through me
... if so, at what cost?
Where are your smiles
your music and song?
You people of my blood
I've loved you so long
Yes you cry out
your teeth broken out
your flesh gone away
the sound of your shout
I heard you I did
but it was so late
I just cannot find you
I searched high and low
It's just been too long
and there's nothing to show
just a book full of names
that I should have known
babies and children
that never were grown
I fall to my knees
I pray for your breath
I'll wait then to hold you
Someday after death.
But where are your dreams?
Hold on.
